As we have learned through history - and through all of John Le Carre spy books, Mme. CL DE PAUW is actually Mademoiselle Claude DePauw, from the Left Bank of Paris, or La Rive Gauache to the locals. Her husband, the late Claude DePauw was an industrialist, and during The War (WWII) was a great personal friend of Winston Churchill. He was invited on more than one occasion to Churchill's estate to plot some escapades against the Germans. It was, in fact DePauw's idea to float the dead body down the Rhine with all the secret documents in it and made the Germans think that the dead body was a spy with secrets in his pockets! DePauw also led a raid into downtown Burscheid where it was said, the first V2 rocket was being designed. His wife, Mimi was a mathmatics major and was recruited to work on Project Ultra in the north country. She helped decode the German, and later the Japanese codes. She actually knew before anyone, that the Japanese were on their way to Pearl Harbor, but to keep the code secret, told no one. Mr. Claude DePauw passed away a very wealthy man in 1975, and Mme. Claude DePauw has owned the top two floors of that hotel ever since. She rarely leaves now, and is visited only rarely by her grand daugher. I understand she is working on her memoir. Or....I could just be making this all up.
